Elder Activists for Social Justice Resolution
In Support of our Nation's Youth
and the "March for our Lives"
The Elder Activists for Social Justice Team of the Conscious Elders Network joins its voice with those of the surviving students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, their families and people of good will across this country that are demanding an end to the legislative paralysis that prevents common sense gun control from being enacted in this country.
As Elders we respect and care for our interconnected community of Life; and advocate for justice and peaceful coexistence for all people. As Elders, we feel our moral responsibility to raise our voices to protect our children, grandchildren and all future generations.
We stand in solidarity with our youth who are bravely speaking truth to power about the lack of effective change in our political arena to safeguard them in their schools. Specifically, we support the efforts of the "March For Our Lives" towards a national mobilization on March 24, 2018. We hear the anguish and power of their mission and join them in saying:
“Not one more. We cannot allow one more child to be shot at school. We cannot allow one more teacher to make a choice to jump in front of a firing assault rifle to save the lives of their students. We cannot allow one more family to wait for a call or text that never comes. Our schools are unsafe. Our children and teachers are dying. We must make it our top priority to save their lives.”
We are proud of our courageous youth who will no longer risk their lives waiting for someone else to take action on their behalf to stop the epidemic of mass school shootings that has become all too familiar. Humbly, we Elders stand with our youth, as supporters, mentors, and witnesses with full hearts and love; and we will use our power as an organization to encourage our members and all people to:
- Walk with and support the March for Our Lives, March 24th in our locales
- Support the national School Walkout on March 14th
- Send donations to support the efforts of our youth
- Call your elected officials, at any level of government, and ask them to pledge to support the movement to end gun violence.
Therefore, we offer this Resolution, on February 26, 2018, to safeguard the future of all youth, children and future generations.
