New Worldview Workshop
Seven-session online series (Eighth session added!)
October 30, 2018 - March 5, 2019
10:00 - 11:30 am PST / 1:00 - 2:30 pm EST
Facilitated by Geoff Ainscow
What is this workshop about?
This workshop is about a person’s worldview. How that worldview influences how we live, how we treat Earth and how we relate to each other. Today, with 7.6 billion humans and growing on a finite planet, our worldview needs to change from seeing Earth as a dead rock to a living system. Our new worldview will ensure clean water, fresh air and productive soil for future generations.
Session 1 – Today’s Reality
What is today’s reality? What is the state of our Earth, oceans, soils, forests, rivers, atmosphere, humanity, all species. Part of reality is also our history, our present and our vision for the future. Does our worldview change the reality? What is the predominant worldview today?
Session 2 – What Is A Worldview?
Our guest speaker is a professor at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. She will introduce worldviews and conduct a survey. We will discuss different worldviews and explore your own worldview.
Session 3 – Earth’s History
Many people say Earth has a cancer. Most doctors before giving a remedy want to know the patient’s history. To discover the remedy for Earth’s crises we must know Earth’s history and how life works.
Session 4 – Continued Growth Versus A Finite Planet
All the crises are symptoms of one underlying problem, ‘humans demand more than Earth can supply’.
Everyone completes the Global Footprint Network calculator.
Session 5 – A Self-Regulating Earth
Earth history shows the Sun continually heats up, yet the surface of Earth stays between 0 and 100 deg C. How so? Life regulates the density of the atmosphere to keep the temp even.
Session 6 – Purpose Of Life?
Present the arrow of time. Discuss is there direction, intention to the arrow of time. What is the purpose of the oceans, the topsoil, the air, humans? What’s the purpose of life, of your life?
Session 7 - How Do We Live To Ensure Our Grandchildren’s Future?
Inspired to work for a sustainable world for our grandchildren.
Complete New Worldview chart.
Handout list of actions. Close with video of our grandchildren.
Session 8 - Global Population with Dr. Richard Grossman
